Als YouTuberin Brittani Boden vor drei Monaten einen gesunden Sohn zu Welt brachte, war das Familienglück perfekt. Brittani, Ehemann Jeff und die fünf Kinder freuten sich auf das erste gemeinsame Weihnachten zu siebt. Doch das Fest der Liebe wurde zum Albtraum, den keine Familie durchleiden sollte. Beim Verwandtenbesuch am zweiten Weihnachtsfeiertag legte die 29-Jährige ihren jüngsten Spross zum Schläfchen hin. Als sie kurz darauf nach ihm sehen wollte, atmete der Säugling nicht mehr.
Der kleine Crew kam mit dem Notarzt ins Krankenhaus. Doch sein kleines Gehirn war schon zu lange ohne Sauerstoff. Nur noch Maschinen hielten das drei Monate alte Baby am Leben.
„Es ist ein Albtraum und ich sterbe innerlich“, schrieb Brittani auf Instagram. „Bittet betet für mein Baby, dass kann alles nicht wahr sein.“

Right now Crew is “stable” and the ventilator is breathing for him. They are working on stabilizing his body and tomorrow he will have an MRI to determine his brain function and that will determine the next step. I can’t explain to you what this feels like. This kind of thing only happens to “other” people. Not me. I just want to crawl in bed with my baby and nurse him. Instead I’m standing here with a breast-pump in my bra where my baby should be... begging God for a miracle. Please continue to pray. Please. I don’t think I can go on without him. #prayforcrew

Eltern entscheiden sich für Organspende
Dann mussten die Eltern ihre wohl schwierigste Entscheidung treffen. Während Crew nicht mehr zu retten war, waren seine Organe noch intakt. "Crews kleiner irdischer Körper ist immer noch bei uns, obwohl ich weiß, dass er schon im Himmel tanzt und spielt. Wir müssen in den nächsten zwölf Stunden einige harte Entscheidungen treffen, die keine Eltern jemals machen müssen sollten. Wir brauchen jetzt mehr als sonst Gebete für Frieden und Klarheit für die Entscheidungen, die wir machen müssen und für unsere Herzen. Der Schmerz ist unerträglich.“

Crew’s tiny earthly body is still with us, although I know he’s already dancing and playing in Heaven. We have some hard decisions to make over the next 12 hours, that no parent should ever have to make. We need prayer now, more than before, specifically prayers for peace and clarity on the decisions that have to be made, and for our hearts, the pain is unbearable. I keep thinking that I will wake up from this nightmare, but I don’t. The outpouring of love and support has been astounding and we cannot even comprehend the amount of love we have been shown. #prayforcrew #crewscrew

Laying in bed with Crew, listening to @karijobe and @hillaryscottla , I have found clarity in the decisions that we have to make. And right now we are making hand and footprint imprints, a family handprint tree and a fingerprint charm. Jeff and I take turns being strong for each other, and our kids have been so strong. We are just taking things, minute by minute, hour by hour, although it feels like a daze. The huge amount of support that we have been shown is mind blowing to us, and we truly do feel all of the love and prayers being sent this way. #prayforcrew #crewscrew

Kurz darauf entschied sich die Familie, die Organe des Kleinen zu spenden und damit drei bis vier Babys zu retten. Zuvor verabschiedeten sich Brittani, Jeff und die Kinder von Crew. Sie badeten ihn, hielten ihn fest, sagten ihm, wie sehr sie ihn liebten.
Ein riesiges Loch im Herzen
Am Mittwoch wurden dem Säugling schließlich die Organe entnommen.

Our sweet Crew went to be with Jesus today. I rode on the bed with him to the O.R, with Jeff walking beside me as the surgical team pushed us through the halls. People lined the halls to pay their respects to our little hero and then we said the hardest goodbye of our lives. I’m not very good with words right now, because my heart hurts and I’m angry. Crew’s Story has reached masses, and it selfishly hurts me that it has. I’m thankful for all the love and support that we have been shown, but please keep in mind that we can see your comments, questions and conversations with one another. Put yourself in our shoes(which is impossible to do) and ask yourself If you’d want to read what you’re about to write or say. Right now Crew is dancing and playing in Heaven with Jeff’s brother, great grandparents, a little brother I never met, and some very special little boys. And one day we hope we to meet the 3 or 4 little lives that he has saved. But right now there’s a big hole in my heart and my arms feel empty. „Die Menschen standen in den Krankenhausgängen Spalier für unseren kleinen Helden.“ Es sei der härteste Abschied ihres Lebens gewesen. „Mein Herz schmerzt und ich bin wütend. … Eines Tages hoffen wir, die drei oder vier kleinen Leben, die Crew gerettet hat, zu treffen. Aber im Moment ist nur ein riesiges Loch in meinem Herzen. Bitte betet dafür, dass wir die Stärke in den kommenden Stunden, Tagen, Wochen und Jahren aufbringen können."
